Open Copy

Saturdays from
11am – 5pm

Public Hours at WIP are called Open Copy.

Electric saddle stapler machine in black

Open Copy provides time, space, and equipment access for self-publishing, zinemaking, book arts, comics, chapbooks, collage, and print/book experimentation. Walk-ins and first time visits are encouraged! During Open Copy, visitors can make copies, use binding equipment, and plan print projects. Projects that benefit from access to a photocopier, adjustable working height tables, and binding/collating equipment are a good fit for Open Copy. Riso use is welcome during Open Copy, and all riso users must participate in a Riso 101 Orientation through WIP before independent use of the machines.

Open Copy is a time for public use of the WIP print shop. Photocopies, riso masters and prints, and spiral/comb binding must be paid for at time of printing. Please tally your copies during Open Copy and settle up with cash, paypal, or venmo at the end of work time.

Offerings / Support

House Paper

The paper we keep on hand includes white, 20lb. and 24lb. copy paper and a 65lb and 90lb white, cover-weight cardstock. Along with some additional colors and paper weights If you want anything else, like pastel colors or color cardstock for covers, it’s BYOP (Bring Your Own Paper).

Our print pricing does not include paper. In stock house paper pricing is based on size and paper weight. For speciality paper weights and colors it is BYOP (bring your own paper).

Supported
self-publishing

WIP has one to two shopkeepers on hand during Open Copy to provide free, on-the-spot help with basic copy functions and shop equipment. Shopkeepers provide technical support for all machines and equipment in the shop space, but do not offer riso training during Open Copy.

Open Copy is not a “make your first zine” workshop; it’s a better fit for projects that are ready to print or copy and for folks who need space to work on a print project. Keep an eye on our workshop calendar for zine, chapbook, and comics workshops.
